“Every year, the Children’s Book Award Committee of the Wisconsin Library Association’s Youth Services Section honors a Wisconsin author or illustrator for contributions to the world of children’s literature. This year, Dori Chaconas has been chosen as the 2016 Notable Wisconsin Author/Illustrator for youth literature.
The Committee recognizes her accomplishments through the numerous children’s books she has created. We are also impressed by her dedication to supporting other writers as they hone their craft. We are truly honored to claim Dori Chaconas as a Wisconsin author.”

Dori Chaconas was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and still enjoys life in that beautiful state. The second child in a family of seven children, Dori fell into the role of storyteller and nursery rhyme singer for her younger siblings. She learned story pacing in those early years. If the action lagged, her fidgety audience scattered.
Dori began writing for children in 1997. Her stories are often touched with humor and frequently reflect the warmth of family life. She gives credit to her parents for giving her a strong sense of family, and to her children and grandchildren for keeping it alive.

There's something special about the day. But what?
To find out, best friends Cork the muskrat and Fuzz
the possum go in search of a good thinking tree for
a little 'piece of quiet.' They find chirping birds, nut
throwing squirrels, and jingly bells - but a piece of
quiet is difficult to find.
In their first-ever picture book, Cork and Fuzz
celebrate the special season, the wonder of the out-
doors, and the importance of friendship.

Lisa Moser loves books. She loves the way they smell, and the way they look, and the way they can make her feel. She loves reading them, and she absolutely adores writing them. Lisa feels very blessed to have written nine books for children—six picture books and three beginning readers. Before Lisa was a children’s author, she taught fifth grade and is proud to say she was never beaten in a footrace by any of her students. She only raced once, though. She’s smart enough to retire a champion. Lisa has been writing books for children for close to 20 years, and her very best days are working with students on reading and writing.
Lisa lives in Wisconsin with her husband, daughter, and dog where she is surrounded by squirrels jumping in the trees, an occasional muskrat swimming across her pond, and loud rustlings- which are probably those squirrels, again-in the woods.

“Compactly told in short lines, these pieces are part beginning-reader stories and part poetry. In spirit they remind me of Arnold Lobel’s wonderful Frog and Toad books...Millward’s watercolor, ink and pencil drawings highlight the stories’ whimsy; her google-eyed characters and obsessive, scribbly vegetation add up to a rousing expression of cheer.”
